Holi  [March 03, 2007]

Celebrated in March, it is the Indian festival of spring. The new season is ushered in with prayers, rituals, dances and songs. The present custodian of the House of Mewar, Shri Arvind Singh Mewar, conducts the ceremony of lighting the pious fire, called the Holika Dahan, with dignity at Manek Chowk in The City Palace. Guests and visitors observe the ceremonies and then join the festivities at Zenana Mahal for cocktails and dinner.

Gangaur

It is a celebration of spring in March-April every year. This festival of love spreads a message of happiness through songs, dances and religious processions. The Gangaur Ghat, on the banks of Lake Pichola, is awash with flowers, colourfully dressed dancers and singers. Boat-rides and cultural performances at The City Palace are held to mark the traditional Gangaur festival in Udaipur.

Ashwa Poojan   [October 20, 2007]

A time-honoured tradition from the House of Mewar

A vital part of Living Heritage, Ashwa Poojan is the traditional reverential acknowledgement of the empathy between a Rajput and his horse, continued since the ancient past, still practiced and followed by the present 76th custodian, Shriji Arvind Singh Mewar.

Dassera    [October 21, 2007]

It is the triumph of good over evil that is marked during this Hindu festival celebrated at The City Palace, Udaipur. Guests and visitors join the Royal Family of Mewar as the demon-kings are set aflame; prayers and rituals mark the commemorative day of Dassera in October.

Diwali [November 09, 2007]

This is the popular Hindu festival of lights celebrated a fortnight after Dassera in October-November every year. Candles, diyas and special illuminations are the highlight of this night of festivity. The goddess of wealth, Lakshmi, is venerated and special prayers are held during the day and night. Sweets and flowers are distributed; guests and visitors to The City Palace are specially invited to witness the firework displays and illuminations that are breathtaking.

Kartik Poornima  [November 24, 2007]

The full moon night in November is celebrated as Kartik Poornima; the only Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Brahma, creator of the universe. Musical soirees and dance performances, followed by dinner and cocktails, mark this festival that is celebrated at Manek Chowk of The City Palace, Udaipur, every year.

Shriji's Birthday  [December 13, 2007]

Shriji's birthday on 13th December has become an event that attracts not only the descendants of royalty from all parts of the country but also many admirers and friends from all walks of life. The birthday of Shriji is celebrated with religious fervor and traditional pomp and show. His private residence The Shambhu Niwas Palace in the morning becomes an open house for priests and community leaders, formal royals, friends and guests from far and near who come to bless and wish him. Shriji meets and greets all the guests and visitors personally in an open house until late noon.

Christmas Eve [December 24, 2007]

Grand Heritage Palaces and Royal Retreats of the HRH Group begin the year-end celebrations with Christmas Eve parties for guests and visitors to the historic towns of Rajasthan. Banquets, special dinners, dances and musical programmes are organized to make it a fun-filled festive celebration for all.
