memorable and unique
Udaipur, 21st Feb., It’s a wedding to beat all weddings. Raveena Tandon has always been high on emotions and her wedding is emotionally turbocharged. All her close friends and her nearest and dearest family members have landed in Udaipur for the wedding preparations. It's all set to be a power-packed Punjabi wedding friends dhol bajana and naach gana.
Raveena's brother Rajiv and his wife Rakhi Tandon are personally supervising all work related to the wedding, which takes place at the Jagmandir island-palace on Sunday. The bright smiles on the faces of her parents, Ravi and Veena Tandon, tell a different story altogether — while Rajiv and Rakhi are tackling the chaos, Raveena's parents are revelling in their daughter's happiness. "This is the happiest moment in our lives," they say. Rajiv is ecstatic. "This is one wedding where there will be no tears. We are all so happy for her. Anil is a great guy. I've always wanted the best for Raveena and Anil is everything I could have asked for," says Rajiv, even as he readies to dance at the sangeet.
Held at the breathtaking Shiv Niwas Palace, the sangeet is packed with loads of Punjabi dance masti and music. It is a rocking success; right from the chauffeured cars to the beautiful, personally-supervised diyas to the flower-bedecked entrance, everything is perfect. To add colour to the sangeet, there were musicians specially flown in for the occasion and bhangra king Arvinder doing a special jig. Raveena and Anil unabashedly dancing to Mahi Ve, with Karan Johar for company, became the highlight of the sangeet. The mehendi ceremony also took place with great fun and frolic. The strain of Punjabi songs and dholak, floated by the poolside of the Shiv Niwas Palace, during the mehendi function. A glowing, blushing Raveena sat patiently through it for four hours, looking ravishing in a cream and gold lehenga-choli designed by Manav.
The guests, who have flown in from Mumbai to grace the occasion, are Anil and Raveena's close industry friends like Karan Johar, Manish Malhotra and Gauri Khan minus Shahrukh Khan (who is shooting in Wahi for Ashutosh Gowariker’s film). Raveena's personal friends include Afifa Nadiadwala (Sajid Nadiadwala's sister), Ritu and Ravi Shastri, and Manav Gangwani, who has designed an exquisite brocade outfit for the dazzling sangeet. "This is my time to go all out and indulge myself... I'm enjoying every moment of this, right from selecting my jewellery to wearing all these lovely, heavy Indian clothes," smiles the glowing bride-to-be. The media has been kept out of this very private affair. Only a handful of close friends from the media have received invitations. "You are from the bride-family's side!" she grins.
