The Maharana Mewar Foundation Annual
Awards constitute an important feature of the activities of the Maharana
Mewar Charitable Foundation (MMCF). From a modest beginning, the range
of this Scheme of Awards has steadily grown to become an event in the
domestic and international arena. The Maharana Mewar Foundation Annual
Awards helps carry forward the tradition of promoting excellence. In the
scheme of awards, an International Award 'Colonel James Tod Award' has
been established to honour a foreign national who has contributed
towards upholding the time honoured principles of Mewar through works of
permanent value to society. There are four National Awards: The
Haldighati Award is given to an individual whose endeavours have
benefited society through the medium of journalism in particular, or
through any media in general; Hakim Khan Sur Award has been instituted
for those who strive towards honouring the cause of National
Integration; Maharana Udai Singh Award honours work of permanent value
in protecting and enriching the environment, and the Pannadhai Award is
presented to a person who ventures beyond the call of duty and sets an
example in society through conscientiousness and sacrifice. The Maharana Mewar Award has been instituted to honour those who consider it their duty, like the Diwans of Shri Eklingji still do, to serve society in the field of education, literature, social services, philanthropy and character-building activities and do exemplary work therein. Other State Awards are Harit Rashi Award for works of lasting value in reawakening society through the medium of Vedic culture, the ancient shastras (texts) and karma kand (ritual), Maharana Kumbha Award to honour historical and literary works of lasting value, Maharana Sajjan Singh Award to honour work of lasting value to society in the fields of fine art, sculpture, architecture, Dagar Gharana Award, named after the celebrated Dagar Brothers who made Dhrupad and Dhamar gayaki their personal symbol of excellence in the field of Indian classical music. This award was instituted to honour musicians for works of permanent value to society in the field of Indian classical music, Rajasthani folk dance and folk music. The Rana Punja Award honours works by a person of tribal origin, Aravali Award is to encourage outstanding sportspersons for achieving distinction in any discipline of sport. Other than the International, National and State Awards, students too were also falicitated for performing well in academics, sports and co-curricular activities in school and college. The Maharana Mewar Charitable Foundation organised a special programme on Hindustani classical music on Saturday 4th March for guests attending the weekend's functions, here Mrs. Seema Anil Sehgal from Mumbai presented Ghazals on peace while Ustad Moinuddin Khan played Sarangi. This mesmerising programme was followed by a lavish banquet at Sabha Shiromani Ka Darikhana.. The Maharana Mewar Foundation Annual Awards 2005-2006 were presented at a spectacular ceremony held at The Manek Chowk, The City Palace Complex in Udaipur, on Sunday the 5th March at 1600 hrs. |
