Shikarbadi
Hotel a former Royal hunting lodge
History and Location Built in the 1930's, Shikarbadi as the name suggests - was the hunting
lodge of the Mewar Royal family. Located outside the centre of the city
of Udaipur, Shikarbadi lies at the foothills of the ancient and historic
Aravali mountain range. In 1976 the property was converted into a hotel.
Due to its location in the rustic countryside, Shikarbadi provides calm
and tranquility for those looking to get away. The grounds of the hotel
include a cricket pitch, horse stables, an airstrip and a private deer
park. A protected wildlife reserve enclosed within the 250 acres of the
hotel, shelters a variety of indigenous and rare animals.
Accommodation
Shikarbadi Hotel offers chalet style accommodation in twenty-six
air-conditioned rooms and suites but the hotel has four large suites and
6 rooms in the original building.
16 chalet style rooms in a separate wing overlook a section of the
wildlife reserve
The rooms which have been renovated during the summer of 2006 are well
appointed with modern conveniences. Internet facilities are available in
the hotel
Fine dining
The hotel has a two fine dining Restaurants and a Bar which is
located in the original building. The walls of the Wilderness Bar are
covered with photographs of the cricket and polo matches which were
organized in the late nineteen fifties and early sixties. Originally,
this was the residence of Shriji Arvind Singh Mewar, the 76th custodian
of the House of Mewar and also the current chairman of the HRH Group.
The Bar with its aura of nostalgia still has the feel of British
countryside in the sixties.
The restaurants are surrounded by the wildlife sanctuary. Overlooking
the swimming pool is the Baithak restaurant which provides an excellent
natural ambiance as it is surrounded by the wildlife sanctuary on two
sides. The restaurant which can seat up to 45 people, serves Chinese and
Continental cuisine as well as a selection of snacks. The other
restaurant aptly named Cheetal gets its name from a species of Deer.
Located adjacent to the Deer park, the restaurant serves authentic
Indian cuisine with barbecue (tandoor) snacks. Risala is an open-air
restaurant situated around a campfire. The open-air restaurant is a
unique venue and can accommodate large gatherings of people.
Other Facilities
Located away from the frenetic energy of the city, Shikarbadi offers
its guests privacy and comfort in quiet surroundings. The hotel,
ensconced in a rustic landscape, radiates solitude and silence. Enclosed
within the vast acreage of the grounds are a unique set of facilities
somewhat uncommon to most deluxe hotels. These are Shikarbadi's great
advantages. |
