The French Connection
HRH Group of Hotels paid tribute to the 4th Earl of Sandwich a French nobleman, John Montagu who is said to have been an avid gambler too lazy to move off the tables and thus chose to eat his meals -- meat between two slices of bread thereby giving birth to the trend popularly known ever since as 'Sandwich'.
A weekend sandwich festival was held at The Palkikhana from July 14- 16 where a variety of sandwiches, cunningly christened after the Earl, were served. The event was sponsored by Cobra Beer.

Yale Whiffenpoofs concert at the Durbar Hall

The Yale Whiffenpoofs' concert in udaipur
Some 97 years ago, 4 seniors at Yale University, USA, laid the foundation of a much celebrated and hallowed tradition - meeting every Friday for weekly concerts at Mory's Temple Bar and singing for their Champagne if not supper! These seniors founded the Whiffenpoofs which today is the world's oldest and best known collegiate acappella group.
Every year, 14 senior Yale men are selected to be in the Whiffenpoofs. They perform over 200 concerts during the year. These include tours, TV appearances and even performing for the president. Upon graduation, the Whiffs embark upon a 13-week world tour in aid of a chosen charity. This year the Whiffs are travelling to over 25 cities and visited India as well. It was a proud privilege for the HRH Group to host this celebrated guild and have them perform at the Durbar Hall whose construction commenced around the same time as the Whiffenpoof tradition was started.
The event was hosted by Mr. J.S. Rathore and attended by our members and privilege card holders on Tuesday July 18, 2006.
