Gajner Palace
A jewel in the desert, Gajner Palace,
enclosed within a wildlife sanctuary boasts
a grand legacy providing the ideal retreat.
Location
Part of HRH Group of Hotels, Gajner
Palace is an incomparable jewel in the Thar
Desert. Built by Maharaja Ganga Singhji of
Bikaner, on the edge of a lake, it is spread
over 6000 acres of land. The architecture of
Gajner offers a unique blend of traditional
Rajput sandstone carvings on the exterior,
and interiors typical of the late 19th
century and early 20th century European
country houses.
Approximately 30 kms. from the city of
Bikaner the Palace grounds are a private
wildlife sanctuary and home to endangered
antelopes like the chinkara, black buck,
neelgai and other exotic animals. The lake,
within the sanctuary, attracts more than a
hundred species of migratory birds during
the winter months.
Originally, former Maharajas and visiting
British dignitaries during the days of the
Raj used Gajner Palace as a hunting resort.
Some of the more well known celebrities who
have visited the Palace on hunting
expeditions were: The Governor General Lord
Elgin, Lord Mountbatten Viceroy of India,
Prince of Wales (1905) and Lord Erwin
(1927). Once a hunting lodge, the Palace was
turned into a hotel in 1976. Today the
entire complex is a heritage hotel.

The hotel is divided into four wings:
Dungar Niwas, Mandir Chowk, Gulab Niwas, and
Champa Niwas.
Substantial renovations have also taken
place as well as external ornamentation such
as new construction of terraces and

There are 13 luxury suites and 31
well-appointed rooms. Each suite has been
meticulously restored to its original
stateliness.

designed to evoke nostalgia of a time gone
by with magnificent chandeliers and hand
painted ceilings.
'Mirage' the lakeside restaurant exemplifies
majesty with its high ceilings, gilt mirrors
and intricately crafted fireplaces.
The hotel also offers outdoor dining options
on the sand dunes near by and on the shores
of the lake located within the sanctuary.
