Karni Bhawan Palace … an Art Deco palace and former royal residence

Location
Karni Bhawan was the private residence of His Late Highness Maharaja Karni Singhji of Bikaner. Built in the Art Deco style of the 1940's, this intimate hotel has a very spacious and distinct design, which marks the style of architecture and decor. The rooms have old photographs of the Royal Houses of Bikaner and Mewar.
The Palace is also a convenient overnight stopover on the way to Gajner and Nagaur known for its grand Mosques, painted Palaces, annual Cattle fair with colourful dance and folk festivals. While going to Jaisalmer, the Karni Bhawan Palace not only provides an excellent overnight respite but also the opportunity to explore the unspoilt city of Bikaner.

Accommodation
There are ten well-decorated and comfortable suites and two spacious rooms. The sprawling acreage, which surrounds this private hotel, is most suitable for hosting large receptions and weddings.

Fine dining
Manwar restaurant serves authentic Marwari cuisine as well as continental meals, and the hotel also houses the Maikada Bar. The hotel offers privacy and solitude in which you can conduct business conferences and seminars. In the evening, one can go to the market place or even opt for the leisure activities that are organized in the hotel itself. The Palace has very large open areas; a friendly cricket game can be organized on request.

Shopping and Excursions
The Palace's ideal location makes it practical to visit the Lalgarh Palace Museum, Junagarh Fort, the old Jain Temples, Bhadreshwar Temple, Lakshminath Temple, Devikund Sagar comprising major cenotaphs traditionally known as Chattris and also the Asia's biggest Camel Breeding Farm, 10 Kms. south of the city. The Temple of Goddess Karni, the family deity of the House of Bikaner, is at Deshnok, half an hours' drive from Bikaner. While in Bikaner, one should visit the Karni Mata Temple at Deshnoke, which is popularly known as the Rat Temple, The Junagarh Fort and The Sadul Museum at the Lalgarh Palace. Personalized tours can be organized for guests and groups. If one has come to Bikaner, a short visit to Gajner Palace would add to the trip. Precisely half-hour drive from Karni Bhawan is the Gajner village. Although a very small village, it has the beautifully restored Gajner Palace built on the embankment of the Lake. Built by H.H. Maharaja Ganga Singhji of Bikaner, the Palace was used as a hunting resort by the former Maharajas and visiting British dignitaries during the days of the Raj. Spreading over 6000 acres, the Palace has a private wildlife sanctuary, which is home to endangered antelopes like the chinkara, black buck, neelgai and other animals. During winter months, the lake becomes home to more than a hundred species of migratory birds, including the Imperial Sand Grouse.
