Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation
Workshop on Conservation of Artworks and
Maintenance of Historic Structures.
The Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation (MMCF)
organized a workshop on the conservation of
artwork and maintenance of historic structures
in The City Palace Museum, Udaipur. The workshop
was held from November 28 to December 01, in
association with the National Museum, New Delhi
and UNESCO India Office, New Delhi.
The objective of the workshop was to provide
specialized training exclusively in the
restoration of artworks. The workshop also
focused on conducting 'condition' assessments of
selected spaces within the palace. The endeavour
was to create awareness amongst the staff of The
MMCF on the importance of caring for historic
buildings. Another vital agenda of the workshop
was to train students and professionals to
document and assess the artworks of the Mewar
region.
On November 28, the workshop was inaugurated at
The Durbar Hall. The welcome address was given
by Mr Trilok C Sharma, Secretary MMCF. This was
followed by an introduction on MMCF, by Dr.
Shikha Jain, coordinator of the Maharana of
Mewar Charitable Foundation-Getty Project and
Director , Dronah, Gurgaon. Ms. Minja Yang,
Director of UNESCO India Office, New Delhi
briefed the audience on UNESCO’s ongoing
conservation plans in India. Dr. A K Reddy,
Director General of The National Museum stressed
the importance of such conservation workshops
and briefed Shriji Arvind Singh Mewar of Udaipur,
Chairman and Managing Trustee, MMCF briefed on
heritage conservation. The session came to an
end with a vote of thanks by Thakur Bhupendra
Singh Auwa, Chief Administrator, City Palace
Museum. |
