Mewar Motorcycle Expedition
The Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation (MMCF)
welcomed 'Frozen Dunes to Sand Dunes' a
motorcycle expedition of 9 Grenadiers (Mewar) at
The City Palace Complex, Udaipur on December 23,
in the presence of a large and enthusiastic
gathering. To commemorate this striking event,
Colonel K. Airy and Mrs. Airy along with 10
former commanding officers and their families
were present to greet the participants. The
motorcycle expedition arrived in Udaipur after
crossing West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal,
Bihar and Haryana. The expedition avoided the
national and state highways to follow a route
through small towns and villages. Along the way,
the officers had the chance to meet ex military
men who live in retirement in some of the
villages on the mapped route. The expedition was
lead by Lieutenant Colonel Kulveer Singh, Major
R.S. Karakotri and Captain. D.N. Jha.
11 other ranks including 9 Grenadiers,(Mewar)
started their expedition on December 01, 2006
from Natula Pass Sikkim concluding at Basant
Chowk, Shambhu Niwas Palace, Udaipur, on
December 23. The expedition was 'Flagged In' by
Shriji Arvind Singh Mewar of Udaipur. This was
followed by high tea at The Durbar Hall, Fateh
Prakash Palace. In the evening the officers
watched a performance of the Legacy of Honour-
The Mewar Sound and Light Show followed by
dinner at The Palki Khana Restaurant. On
December 24, they were given a guided tour of
The City Palace Museum. They also visited the
Crystal Gallery, The Durbar Hall, and Fateh
Prakash Palace which houses the Mewar armory.
The day ended with cocktails at The Zenana Mahal
followed by a special Christmas Eve dinner.
The expedition was organised by Colonel Praveen
Kumar Airy with the overall coordination
administered by Thakur Bhupendra Singh Auwa,
Chief Administrator, The City Palace Museum,
Udaipur.
Maharana Sajjan Singhji (1874-1884)established
the Sajjan Infantry and later Maharana Bhupal
Singhji, (1930-1955) instituted The Bhupal
Infantry. After independence these regiments
were merged into the Indian Army Regiment of 9
Grenadiers (Mewar). |
