Shiv Niwas Palace, Udaipur
Location
Celebrated for its majestic palaces and shimmering lakes, Udaipur is perhaps one of the most beautiful cities in Rajasthan. On the shores of a picturesque lake is the majestic Shiv Niwas Palace, which stands prominent and elevated on the banks of lake Pichola and is surrounded by crenulated walls. Founded in 1559, the Palace complex is made up of several major palaces which have been converted into hotels; including the former City Palace, now a museum, as well as some minor palaces. These form a single façade atop a promontory that looks out over the lake on one side, and the city of Udaipur on the other.
Accommodation
At Shiv Niwas Palace, the terrace suites have been completely renovated adding new fixtures and furnishings. Seventeen individually decorated suites carry original furniture and portraits that have been with the Royal Family for generations. The suites come equipped with personal DVD players, and there are flat screen TVs in all the rooms. Light and airy with a gentle touch of glamour, the suites are truly fit for royalty. All the suites look out onto the natural panorama of Udaipur. The seventeen perfectly appointed deluxe rooms as well as the suites have free wi-fi access in and around the rooms and in all public areas.
Fine dining
The Hotel offers a wide variety of cuisines in its several exclusive restaurants. The Paantya restaurant decorated with original miniature paintings, gold latticework and chandeliers that date back to an earlier era is attached to the hotel. Due to the Palace complex's undulating topography, the restaurant is elevated and provides a magnificent view of the city. The Paantya offers a selection of Continental, Mughlai and authentic Rajasthani Cuisine. The Pool Deck offers a dinner menu and a live performance of classical music under a starlit sky. In the daytime, a variety of snacks and continental and Indian cuisine are also served here. The Panera Bar with its authentic décor of mirror inlay work and glass chandeliers offers a wide selection of snacks and drinks and is located by The Pool Deck. A new European style café called the Palki Khana has been introduced at the Manek Chowk near the City Palace Museum within the Palace complex itself.
Other Facilities
The Hotel offers several venues with state of the art facilities for conferences and seminars. The Durbar Hall in Fateh Prakash Palace, resplendent with crystal chandeliers, velvet canopies and adorned by original portraits and a splendid display of armoury is an ideal venue for large gatherings. The Hotel has numerous other venues, each distinct and exclusive in its own right. Some of these include: Shiv Niwas Palace Lawns, The Sunset Terrace, Fateh Prakash Palace, Palki Khana in the City Palace Complex, The Manek Chowk, the Zenana Mahal, the Mor Chowk, Moti Chowk, Arsi Vilas and the island Palace Jagmandir.
